Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “A house is made with walls and beams; a home is built with love and dreams.”
For Angelo and Melanie Dovolis, a forested mountain location with stunning panoramic views of Lake Coeur d’Alene called them to make it their home. They chose to work with Aspen Homes to bring their Northwest rustic vision to life.
Story continues after a quick message from our sponsor below.
“I can honestly say that this home is one of my favorites,” said Heidi Hickok, Aspen Homes’ designer for the project. “The style leans to a more refined rustic but has a warm coziness to it that you don’t always get in new construction.”
The 4,052-square-foot home features two full master suites with lake views and two ensuite bedrooms. An expansive covered patio with custom gas fireplaces and a built-in BBQ completes the south-facing side of the home to maximize the sweeping views of Lake Coeur d’Alene that attracted the Dovolises to this 2.6-acre property in the Polo Cielo development at Black Rock.
“Situating the home perfectly on the lot was a crucial element for Angelo and Melanie,” said Hickok. They wanted it to fit within the landscape while maximizing the views.”
Lake views are the focal point in almost every room throughout the home, making use of tall windows and sliding glass doors to achieve unobstructed views. The double glass sliding doors in the living area create a versatile space for both indoor and outdoor entertainment.
The spacious kitchen is every home chef’s dream, with a large range and numerous cooking stations to making prep work a breeze. The stone accent wall in the living area is a striking conversation piece and guests can cuddle up to its fireplace if a rainy day comes along.
The Dovolises, who enjoy the outdoors, chose cedar-lap siding for the exterior and decided to feature an abundance of stone accents both inside and outside to ground the property’s aesthetic. They went with 13-foot ceilings to continue the sensation of the great outdoors throughout the interior of the home.
One of the most unique areas of the home is the den. The main focal point of this room is not the lake view; instead, guests are drawn to admire the prized mounts from the Dovolises’ hunting trips, which are displayed on a barnwood accent wall. The room also has a bar and TV for casual entertainment, with easy access to the covered patio area.
“It’s easy to picture yourself curling up by the fire pit and gazing out on the panoramic view of Lake Coeur d’Alene,” said Hickok.” n
