Builder: Campbell and Campbell Construction
Sean and Rachelle knew the moment they stepped inside this cozy rancher that it would be their retirement home.
They were drawn to the openness of the living space, the high-end finishes and the quality craftsmanship. And they appreciated the picturesque views of the rolling hills and distant mountains in the calm, peaceful Rock Creek community south of downtown Coeur d’Alene. Here, the couple felt worlds away from California and their busy lives in law enforcement.
“This was the first house we walked into on our first trip out here,” Rachelle said.
“I said to Sean ‘this is the house for us.’”
What sealed the deal for the couple was how the home met their need for easy living. The goal in the designing the home was to provide a high-end, low-maintenance option for homeowners who want luxury but don’t want the size and upkeep of traditional custom homes, said builder Randy Campbell, whose projects often consist of large, luxury homes.
These days, more and more people, especially those who are retired, are going for small and easy to maintain.
Story continues after a quick message from our sponsor below.
“They want the quality but not the all the upkeep,” Campbell said.
The Rock Creek home, built in 2017, is the perfect example of this. At 2,600 square feet, the home still feels large thanks to the layout. The master bedroom sits on one side of the house and the guest rooms are located on the other, providing distance and privacy. A large open space that accommodates the family room and kitchen sits in the middle. Floor–to-ceiling windows let in tons of light and give the illusion of space as does the pitched ceiling.
The home is warm and inviting but not overly rustic.
“The whole idea is this is rustic contemporary but not total contemporary,” Campbell says.
Beam work and handpicked stone out of Montana adds to the rustic feel, while European white oak flooring and floating shelves with black metal in place of traditional closed cabinets give a contemporary feel.
It’s easy, both Sean and Rachelle agree. And in their chapter of life, ease is everything.
“When you walk in it’s just comfort without being complicated,” Rachelle says. “We love it so much, Randy is going to build my mom a house next door.” N
