Closest city to the trailhead:
Sandpoint, Idaho
Average Distance of hike:
12.5 miles
Why do you recommend it?
It’s a beautiful hike if you like a challenge. It’s a long climb to the top, but the lake is so peaceful and the scenery is stunning.
What was most noteworthy?
The alpine lake at the top! It’s peaceful, pretty and a great reward after a hard hike. This is a great spot for backpacking, with a dozen dedicated spots around the lake.
Are there restrooms?
No
Story continues after a quick message from our sponsor below.
Know before you go?
Google maps gives bad directions. Make sure to turn off onto Forest Service Road NF-293 to get to the trailhead. The last 1/2 mile is pretty intense, and I wouldn’t recommend going without a high clearance vehicle.
Where to celebrate after?
MickDuff’s Brewing in Sandpoint
How do you get there?
From Coeur d’Alene, head north on 95 past Sandpoint. You’ll turn left off 95 onto Upper Pack River Road. You’ll stay on that road for several miles until you reach NF-293. Turn left onto this road. Follow this road until you reach the trailhead.
