Good interior design is about listening to what is both said and not said. Who’s talking? That depends – it could be the clients or the house. Likely both.
Interior Designer: Lynn Fleming Xact Interiors
For Lynn Fleming with XACT Interiors, the goal is to become her clients’ doppelganger throughout the design process so that she can capture their essence and create environments that fill their souls while fitting their lifestyles.
“We could not do our magic without freedom to capture the undercurrent and unspoken visions of the client,” Fleming said. “Psychology, listening and interpreting makes for successful, tailored interior design.”
Story continues after a quick message from our sponsor below.
For this stunning home overlooking Hayden Lake, her clients’ goals were to maximize the lake views while updating the home from a French theme to a more modern, natural aesthetic that won’t become dated once they retire and relocate from Houston.
While the majority of the home’s interior was destined for redesign due to the dated French theme and 1980s vibe, such as the golden oak floors and wall-to-wall carpet, the clients knew exactly which elements they wanted to keep: the handsome master bath, the stone entry floor and the gothic wine room.
They also knew exactly what had to go.
“She also was firmly resolved to remove six costly Rocky Mountain Hardware bronze wall sconces reminiscent of Art Deco elevator call lights and the Corgi doggy dayroom complete with built-in couches and TV console in the lower level,” said Fleming.
Fleming worked with the clients to create a harmonious flow that would enhance the bones and quality materials of the home and embody modern elegance in addition to the couple’s quirky humor and their delight in the unexpected.
Updating the exterior was something that both the new owners and the neighbors were excited about. Fleming chose a warm, earthy gray for the stucco exterior to find harmony with the brown roof and trim and to blend into the landscape, something the previous “Mardi Gras Gold” was not intended to do.
Warm grays continue throughout the interior, where the clients selected bright, neutral tones and striking lighting to provide a clean backdrop for their planned indoor art and music galleries as well as the panoramic lake views.
“Like a conductor, I can say it is the whole of the cantata rather than a single note or phrase,” Fleming said. “The clients allowed and encouraged a full edit and dusting off of all the interior elements. It was a total refresh that does not overpower but is still unique and memorable.” N
