This home on Coeur d’Alene Lake is a true modern craftsman. Built by custom home builder MB Builders and designed by Hendricks Architecture and Xact Interiors, this 8,785-square-foot home is made for entertaining. With 9 fireplaces, a sprawling balcony and an expansive outdoor kitchen, this home in the luxury development of Black Rock is the place to be during North Idaho summers. Builder Rich Boettcher, architect John Hendricks and designer Lynn Fleming came together to not just to create a family retreat but one with unmatched attention to the finer points.
The homeowners wanted an ultimate entertaining area. This one includes an Italian wood fired oven, a corner griddle and monster grille. “It’s his idea of fun,” Fleming says.

This recessed oak-top bar allows for the server and guests to be at eye level, creating more comfortable entertaining. The low chairs back up to the dining table. “Everyone’s on eyeball level,” Fleming says. Nobody’s looming over someone else.”

The primary bedroom is a retreat itself, with a quaint window seat and private deck. The fireplace is one of 9 in the home. The decorative wall is a fresh resawn fir to add texture to the look. The beams are structural and support a gable roof.

Lots of light pours into this grand kitchen. “The homeowners wanted to make sure everyone had a spot in the place because everyone’s in that kitchen,” Fleming says. The space is made for entertaining large crowds with three ovens and warming drawers.

Soft colors and warm floors create a dreamy primary bath. Separate vanities are a nod to function while the deep soaking tub and chandelier create a bit of romance. The stone is quartzite, and cabinets are smooth premium alder with taupe stain. Real limestone flooring is sealed so it’s durable. The bath walks out to a private spa area.

The large balcony accommodates the homeowners’ big family. “They enjoy big outdoor meals under this cover,” Fleming says. Fleming took the balcony design from another, smaller Black Rock home and enlarged it for this project. One of the challenges, she noted, was trying not to cut back on design as the original 5,200-square-foot plan expanded to its current 8,785 square feet.
