Why do you recommend it?
This massive waterfall rivals Palouse Falls but allows you to get right up in front of it. The other great thing is it flows hard all year round, making it a great place to visit in the fall. The spray of mist creates a never-ending rainbow.
What was most noteworthy?
It’s size and power. It’s always fun seeing a huge waterfall through the trees as you approach. Several other waterfalls in the area make it an outstanding weekend trip any time of year. Above the highway a boot path takes you to a spectacular 80-foot upper falls. The lower falls is located along a discreet trail just across the road from the highway turnout. You end up walking through the campground, near the restrooms, to a metal bridge that spans over the top of the waterfall. This 40-foot waterfall has a wide spread that cascades elegantly, and is a nice easy stop for those looking to stretch their legs..
Are there restrooms?
No
Know before you go?
The GPS will try to take you over the bridge and above the falls, but the trailhead is the right turn just before the bridge. Eventually you will come across a sign and a pull-out for a few cars. The hike is short, and a bit steep in a few spots.
Where to celebrate after?
Tailout Brewings, Castlegar
How do you get there?
Cross into Canada near Northport, Wash. and head north about 1.5 hours to Slocan. Stop here for waterfalls. Continue north along Slocan Lake to New Denver, turn right on Wilson Creek Road. The trailhead is the right turn before the bridge.
