Sleek Meets Cozy in this Post Falls Home

Open houses and home tours require builders and designers to walk a fine line between wowing potential buyers with amazing architecture and creating a place they can feel comfortable living in.

It’s easy enough to create something sterile and museum-like where you might be afraid of smudging a counter or dropping a crumb on the immaculate floors. But it’s sometimes tougher to create a place where people will say, “I love it and can see myself living here. Where do I buy?”

Tamarack Mountain Homes put in substantial effort to make this 2,172-square-foot home look amazing but also to create something welcoming that potential purchasers wouldn’t need a lot convincing to want to call home.

The kitchen, dining room and living room flow well, making entertaining a breeze.

This single-story home includes slightly darker colors than the builder put in other homes, plus plenty of cedar trim and custom cabinets. It includes three bedrooms, including a designer primary suite, plus an office and two bathrooms. There’s a spacious three-car garage as well as a 30-foot by 10-foot shop.

Co-owner Tyler Mort said he focused on the building and construction aspects of the home, while his wife, co-owner Hannah Mort, focused on the décor and design, including finding just the right colors and textures to fit the neighborhood and natural surroundings. It’s the kind of place where someone can easily relax in the living room after work and then move to the open dining room or kitchen to focus on dinner or happy hour.

Tamarack Mountain Homes began in 2019, specializing in a style called Northwest Modern, a look and feel that successfully blends the more rustic mountain/lodge look common in North Idaho with more modern design touches and elements. In the last few years, Tamarack Mountain Homes has created about 20 homes, all with unique touches.
