Builder: Campbell and Campbell Construction
For husband and wife Debbie and Gary Little, living in a custom-made home embellished with natural wood and stone was a shared and lifelong fantasy.
The couple, who own and manage Gary Little Construction out of Lancaster, Calif., have worked on commercial and industrial projects for companies like Boeing, Six Flags Magic Mountain and more. The bigger the project, the more their own custom oasis outside of their hectic careers went from a fantasy to a need.
After deciding the morning cup of coffee on their future patio was meant to overlook Lake Coeur d’Alene, the couple hunted for home designers to match their vision.
Story continues after a quick message from our sponsor below.
“Once we met Randy and Mary of Campbell and Campbell and they showed us the homes they had built, we knew they could build the home we wanted,” Gary Little said. “Now we have our elegant mountain retreat — it is our dream home.”
Randy Campbell calls the design “mountain rustic,” taking inspiration from his background as a Montana home builder. Campbell, who developed his talents in the extremely harsh conditions of Montana, found that durability and quality construction are the only ways to build a home both beautifully and long lasting.
“Debbie and Gary chose everything from the exposed beams to the light fixtures to the trim,” Randy said. “We started with a spec home design modeled after what I would want for my own custom home. Then we added extra pieces unique to their family.”
The 4,800-square-foot home rests on an 100-acre plot nestled in the conifer trees of Lake Coeur d’Alene.
The 1,000-foot driveway leading to the home overlooks the south side of the lake, ensuring great views in the morning and evening.
The four bedrooms, five bathrooms and an open living room give the Littles’ big family plenty of room to visit. The media room with professional sound, a big-screen television, sunken bar and outside fireplace offers the adults plenty of room to play.
“I wanted the home to be both functional and beautiful,” Randy said. “Extra touches like the backlit kitchen cabinets add beauty, but also a nightlight for evening entertaining.”
With a kitchen built for a gourmet cook, equipped with a double dishwasher and stove, the Littles have a perfect space to express themselves through culinary arts. The dining room patio with overhead heaters allows the couple to serve their food outdoors all year round.
“[My wife] Debbie loves to cook,” Gary said. “[We] love to have people over to visit and entertain. The barbecue and fireplace are used quite often.”
To make the Littles feel even closer to the water, Randy gave every room facing the lake large, scenic windows. Even the great room has a 500-pound glass door that can be opened with only a finger.
Oak wood floors, pitcher pump faucets, local granites and log siding give the home an Idaho farmhouse feeling the Littles were looking for. N
