Hikers to Dry Creek Falls are rewarded with this beautiful waterfall that plunges 74 feet over the basalt walls.

Dry Creek Falls – Cascade Locks, OR

    0
By Nspire Magazine on June 7, 2021 Hiking, Oregon

    Closest city to the trailhead:
    Cascade Locks

    Average Distance of hike:
    4.4 miles

Take some time to relax and enjoy the sounds of Dry Creek flowing by.

    Why do you recommend it?
This easy hike to a beautiful waterfall in the Columbia River Gorge takes you through a lush mossy forest ending at the scenic falls that drop 74 feet over the basalt “amphitheater” wall. The trail to the falls is a section of the famous Pacific Crest Trail.

    What was most noteworthy?
There is some interesting history behind the waterfall. Though named Dry Creek Falls, the water actually flows all year long. It got the name in the 1930’s when Cascade Locks got its water from the creek while the Bonneville Dam was being built.

    Are there restrooms?
    Yes

Story continues after a quick message from our sponsor below.

    Know before you go:
This area was affected by the Eagle Creek fires of 2017. but the falls are mostly unchanged. It is a popular destination, so be prepared to see other hikers and use proper precautions. Always pack out and clean up after your pooches.

    Where to celebrate after:
Double Mountain Brewing in Hood River.

    How do you get there?
On I-84 in Oregon head to Cascade Locks to the Bridge of the Gods Trailhead. From there, cross the road and head up the Pacific Crest Trail, you’ll be going parallel to I-84. Go up Moody Street as it crosses under the freeway. Keep right till you find the Pacific Crest Trail/Gorge Trail #400. Take the trail heading east. At around 1 mile there will be a power line access road going a short distance until the trail picks up again. When you get to Dry Creek you will come to another dirt road. Don’t cross the bridge. Go right and hike about 2/10 of a mile to the falls.

.
"One of the first things to attract attention is a large arched window on the iconic stairwell projection, adjacent to the front door. It’s wrapped in stained shake and is designed to catch the eye and draw it upward. The entryway includes stone and wood pillars and a sitting area on the front porch. The landscaping also complements the natural tones."
